Not Sure How to Use Your New Smart Water Meter? Here's How to Read Tonnage, Balance, and Remaining Water Volume
In recent years, many residential communities, office buildings, apartment complexes, staff dormitories, and schools have replaced traditional water meters with new smart models.
This shift isn’t just about upgrading to a more advanced management system or improving service quality—it’s also because smart water meters are significantly more user-friendly than their older counterparts.
Users can now recharge and purchase water at any authorized sales point, or directly through their mobile phones or computers. There's no longer a need for meter readers to enter homes, which not only improves the accuracy of water usage data but also enhances safety and saves considerable manpower and resources—a win-win for everyone.
However, despite these benefits, some users have expressed confusion about how to use the new smart meters. Common questions include: How do I read the tonnage? Where can I see my balance and remaining water volume?
So today, let’s walk through how to use a smart water meter in everyday situations to help you get the most out of it and make your life easier.
1. What does “M³” mean? “M³” stands for cubic meters. One cubic meter of water equals one ton. So the number of cubic meters displayed represents how many tons of water have been used.
2. How to check your balance To view your water fee balance, simply insert your IC card into the meter’s card slot. The balance will be displayed immediately. If it’s your first time using the meter or your balance runs out, the water supply will stop—at that point, you’ll need to recharge.
To avoid interruptions, make it a habit to check your balance regularly and top up in time.
3. How to check remaining water volume To see how much water you have left, insert your card into the smart meter’s slot or swipe it across the reader. The remaining water volume will appear on the display screen, in the same location as the balance.
Additionally, after inserting or swiping the card, the meter screen will also show the current valve status and other relevant information about your household water usage. This makes it easier to manage and monitor your water consumption.
These are just a few tips for using your smart water meter more effectively. If you have any other questions or need help, feel free to reach out!
